Jeanette's Story

Jeanette Hay says it's easy to be motivated to volunteer when she gets to do so many fun things she wouldn't usually do, like horseriding, hiking, canoeing and camping.

After being involved with at-risk children through ADRA, Jeanette saw the need for them to have something safe in their lives.

Jeanette established the Bayside Community Pathfinder Club in Wynnum, giving kids in the area a chance to enjoy adventure-based activities. She's been volunteering for 14 years, spending a couple of hours each week preparing activities for their monthly meetings.

"It gives the kids a chance to actively learn, as well as guidance and a chance to experience something different," she says.

"It's incredibly satisfying to watch them play and have a good time."

Jeanette fits in volunteering with two part-time jobs, regular involvement with her local church and spending time with her grown family and elderly mother.

"We'd love some more people from the area to come and join us."

" They'll have a lot of fun!"
