Lili's Story - volunteering is wonderfully satisfying

When Lili Radziszewki's parents said goodbye to their Polish home in the 1960s, they were set on a new world of opportunities for their children in the land down-under.  Now the primary school chaplain feels a strong responsibility to give something back in appreciation for the life she has led.

Lili, 29, volunteers her time on a special ADRA (Adventist Development and Relief Agency) project called Storm Co which organises young people to tackle important projects in the community. Storm Co was started by a volunteer in Queensland, and young people around Australia and internationally have taken up the challenge to develop a community spirit.

Last year Lili travelled with 20 Adelaide teenagers to the Davenport Aboriginal community in Port Augusta to clean up and repaint the community hall, and set up a kids' club. So successful was the venture, the team plans to return in October to help with other pressing assignments. Lili says she found the project rewarding because she met people she wouldn't normally come in contact with and connected closely with the community. "Knowing how bad things can be for some people is very humbling," she says. "I encourage everyone to consider volunteering - it's a wonderfully satisfying experience."
